I originally thought there was no way Cobra Commander could possibly look as bad in the movie as he does in Combat Heroes form (as seen below), but the photo on this action figure’s packaging just reinforces my worst fear…that G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is going to suck. I can’t believe I’m writing this, but this movie has summer blockbuster flop written all over it. Why are they messing with a sure thing?
Cobra Commander Live Action Movie Photo
•March 28, 2009 • Leave a CommentEA goes GI – Game to coincide with movie
•March 1, 2009 • Leave a CommentOne more acronym and it’ll be a party. That’s correct, Electronic Arts has secured the rights to titles based on the G.I. Joe brand. The plan is to turn it into cross-platform title to coincide with the live-action movie, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra (set for release in August), according to gamesinudstry.biz.
Chip Lange, GM and VP of EA Hasbro explained: “As Hasbro and Paramount Pictures reignite the G.I. Joe property this year with an all-new toy line and film, EA is excited to play a major role in bringing this icon of pop culture history to a new generation of enthusiasts through interactive gaming. G.I. Joe offers exceptionally rich storylines and a cast of characters that lends itself incredibly well to creating an over-the-top action adventure game which will thrill gamers as well as G.I. Joe fans.”
Mark Blecher, general manager of Digital Gaming and Media at Hasbro, added: “G.I. Joe has been an icon of action for 45 years. EA has tapped the legacy of the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra saga to create an amazing interactive experience inspired by the movie, comic books, animated series and iconography that we hope will resonate with millions of fans.”
GI Joe: Rise of Cobra trailer debuts
•February 1, 2009 • 1 CommentComingSoon.net has debuted the Super Bowl Trailer for G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra in Flash and QuickTime high definition formats a day before the big game in what I can only assume to be the fact Paramount doesn’t think the target audience for this film will be watching an interesting matchup on Sunday afternoon.
I didn’t watch the trailer and personally I am going to begin making an effort to never see another movie trailer before seeing a movie again. Obviously it isn’t going to be an easy task since I will be watching the Super Bowl tomorrow and will have to rely on pausing the game once it heads into commercial, but that’s for me to worry about. However, I did find one comment at Coming Soon related to the trailer quite funny. Neopoko says, “Ok…This could be fun…I just hope that this doesn’t wreck my childhood memories…” Do people seriously have fond childhood memories of G.I. Joe, so much that a movie could ruin them?
I will add the trailer below in Flash, but if you prefer high definition you can download it from ComingSoon right here. We also have a gallery of 17 images from the film right here if you haven’t seen them yet.
More atrocious characters revealed
•January 31, 2009 • Leave a CommentFour more characters have been unearthed through the film’s file cards. Brought into attention by HissTank, the file cards reveal the first look at G.I. Joe’s communications specialist Breaker, Cobra’s scientist The Doctor, Cobra Viper and master of disguise Zartan.
Aside from giving a sneak peek at how the characters will look like in the movie, the file cards also provide short description to each of the characters. In his card, Breaker is described as a digital wizard who never met a system he couldn’t hack into or a firewall he couldn’t break through, while The Doctor as can be seen in his file card is said to be a brilliant scientist who develops the latest technologies for James McCullen and MARS industries.
Meanwhile, Cobra Viper’s card explains that the character forms Cobra Organization’s basic army and is trained to carry out dangerous and deathly operations with high-powered weapons. Zartan, in addition, is a genius with makeup and disguises. His card further read that he can change his voice and appearance to become anyone in the world, even a G.I. Joe’s member. The complete collection of “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” file card can be seen at HissTank.
The new posters are out — and they suck!
•January 28, 2009 • Leave a CommentParamount Pictures has released an exclusive 6 new character posters
for their upcoming movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra on MySpace. And they suck. I mean, black leather, again? Are they X-Men? Are they Joel Schumacher knock-offs?
This costuming is yet another sign that this movie is going to ruin a possible franchise before it even begins. One and done! Here’s hoping the trailer is better than the posters.
Trailer debut confirmed for Super Bowl
•January 26, 2009 • Leave a CommentAccording to Variety, Paramount has bought advertising time for during the Super Bowl. They are reporting that Paramount is to debut G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen “teasers” among some other potential big blockbusters. The Super Bowl Game is to air February 1st on NBC.
Confirmed for this year’s roster are high-profile titles like Paramount’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Star Trek” and “G.I. Joe“; Sony’s “Angels and Demons”; DreamWorks Animation’s “Monsters vs. Aliens”; and Universal’s “Land of the Lost” and its fourth installment in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise. Disney is also planning to use the game to raise the profile for Pixar’s next toon, “Up,” while a “Wolverine” spot is likely from Fox.
Thanks to the Terror Drome (which may be the best GI Joe site I’ve come across) as theywill be reporting any new information as it becomes available.
Will a new trailer kick-off during Super Bowl?
•January 26, 2009 • Leave a CommentThere has been speculation that the trailer for the much-anticipated 2009 GI Joe movie will debut during this week’s Super Bowl. Unfortunately, that same speculation went on to detail how much the trailer sucked.
Why isn’t the GI Joe movie more anticipated?
•January 6, 2009 • 1 CommentAmong the millions of lists that come out this time of the year, one of the most anticipated is The Most Anticipated Films of 2009. With the number of blockbusters heading to theatres over the next twelve months, 2009 promises to be one of the biggest in box office history. Several of the biggest grossing franchises of the last two decades, such as Harry Potter, Star Trek, The Terminator and X-Men are all due out with new installments. And that’s just the beginning. The first GI Joe movie, the second Transformers film, the fourth The Fast and the Furious, the re-launch of Friday the 13th and the debut of The Watchmen all have the possibility to be movies that make more than $100 million at the box office. I expect Hollywood to make so much money this year it may be able to bail out California’s sinking economy all by itself.
One question I have for GI Joe fans is why isnt GI Joe: RoC more highly anticipated. At Screenrant, it’s barely registering in those critics’ lists of the Top 10 Most Anticipated films of 2009. According to Fandango, the launch of one of the biggest icons of the 1980′s is the ninth most anticipated film, right behind Angels and Demons, and that’s just among men. Wilco Tango Foxtrot?
I have a sinking feeling that the buzz on this film is heading south because of the horrible casting decisions. Sienna Miller just does not inspire confidence in moviegoers. And for GI Joe fans, casting Marlon Wayans as Ripcord is almost sacreligious.
I hope it’s not too late to right this ship. But this a 170 million dollar film and it may take a lot to turn the buzz around.
No trailer yet…just a tease.
•December 27, 2008 • Leave a CommentWritten details of potential “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” teaser trailer has been put out. Claiming to have seen the sneak peek of the action movie in a test screening, Jason Nicholl of Nukethefridge.com described what he has seen in what could be the film’s promotional effort.
Starting the description, Nicholl wrote that the teaser “begins with some jets zooming by and dropping some bombs”. He continued noting that what comes next is a scene where Dennis Quaid‘s Hawk talks to members of a new elite fighting force that is formed to fight terrorism followed by a couple of terrorist attacks.
“Next we see some quick shots of a number of characters like Scarlett, Channing Tatum‘s Duke on a motorcycle, Sienna Miller as the Baroness sliding down a staircase railing, and a quick shot of Snake Eyes and Stormshadow fighting,” Nicholl further described. More on the description can be read via Nukethefridge.com.
